Blog Social networking
Social networking has been very beneficial to our community in many ways. One of which is aiding people to find jobs and helping recruiters find candidates all on the social media platform LinkedIn. I have personally used LinkedIn to find employers and jobs that are suitable for me. It is a great way to build a relationship with job recruiters and past employers to make sure a window is always open for you when things are tough. In the NPR article, "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting", it states, "Using Linkedin, Steckerl says he can scout a group of job candidates in just half an hour" and "Social networking technology is absolutely the best thing to happen to recruiting -- ever". Social networking sites like LinkedIn have helped people build their careers. However, there is another side of social networking sites that is becoming a threat.
Sites like Facebook and Instagram provides a platform for users to post their daily lives for the whole world to see. These posts plus recent technology that collects personal data can result in a world of zero privacy. An article published on The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania states, "The information provides opportunities not only for legitimate business purposes, but also for the nefarious aims of identity thieves and other predators". This kind of threat to our privacy is the real dark side to social networks sites such as Facebook and Snapchat and in the future, the data collecting software behind these sites can be used to attack users with advertisements, scam calls, and identity theft.
